Dr. Sonja Biggs is the President, CEO, and Co-founder of Sonja Biggs Educational Services, Inc. She has been an elementary classroom teacher, as well as a university professor working with students from birth to adulthood. Sonja is a TVI and COMS instructor dually certified in both California and Washington State. Sonja has her Ph.D. in Advanced K-12 Education from Capella University and brings experience as a mother of a blind child from birth to transition into adulthood. Dr. Biggs is active in many professional organizations such as CAOMS, CTEBVI, and AER. Personal motto: "I'm surrounded by stars and it is my job to help them shine!"

Brandon Keith Biggs is the CFO and Co-founder of Sonja Biggs Educational Services, Inc. He graduated June 2016 with a B.A. in Music and minor in Marketing. He has a Masters Degree in Inclusive Design through OCAD University in Toronto, Canada. Brandon is passionate about research & development and inclusion. He also works as an engineer at Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute in San Francisco. Brandon has an extensive background in business, marketing, and helping start-ups become successful businesses. Brandon is instrumental in bringing growth and vision to our company.  Brandon is also an expert in Assistive Technology and guides our team in knowing what technology our blind & visually impaired students need. Brandon is blind with LCA-CRB1 blindness so he has a deep and personal understanding of blindness and what our students need to be successful. We are fortunate to have him help build our team and lead our company! He is an important member of our Admin Team.

Atom Biggs, BSN RN, is the Vice President of Sonja Biggs Educational Services, Inc. Board of Directors. He is also a major investor and shareholder in the company. He brings a wealth of expertise from a medical point of view, as well as that of a parent of a blind child. Atom enjoys creating wonderful recreational and team building activities for us to experience together. He is Sonja's husband of 35 years and we are so fortunate to have him on our team!

Lindy Culler came to us from Walla Walla, WA. She is our Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Human Resources Director. Lindy has a B.A. in Psychology from Walla Walla University. Lindy has completed her certification in Human Resources through UC Berkeley. She also leads our production of large print and tactile materials using Adobe InDesign and Photoshop. Lindy is a key player in the success of our company and our company culture. Lindy brings with her a positive attitude and brings joy to our work place. We are so happy that Lindy is a part of our team! She is an important member of our Admin Team.

Halle Giacobbe came to us from New York. She is the Human Resources Administrator. She has a B.A. in Psychology from Nazareth College and is dedicated to using her background to support SBES employees. Halle brings three and a half years of HR experience associated with seeking integration and equal access for all persons with disabilities. We are so happy to have Halle as a part of our SBES team!

Ena Attiogbe, MBA,  brings over a decade of professional accounting, industry leadership, business administration and management experience. Ena is responsible for the organization's finance and accounting functions and enjoys working in her field. She holds a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) with an emphasis in finance from California State University, Hayward. Ena served as the Vice President of Finance of the California State University, East Bay - MBA Association and VP of Public Relations of the California State University, East Bay - Entrepreneurship Association. Prior to her current role, Ena served in various controller positions in the Bay Area. We are happy to have her as a part of SBES, Inc. team!

Channing Bond, MA, TVI, O&M, comes to us from Florida with a wealth of experience as a TVI/O&M for the last eight years. She is credentialed in both Florida and California. She received her education at Florida State University. Chann is a member of our Employee Orientation Team. Chann is a wonderful team member and is very creative, innovative, and we are excited to have her at SBES, Inc.!

Britt Reel, MA, COMS, comes to us from Martinez, CA where he previously worked as an orientation & mobility specialist with the Veteran's Administration. He is a wonderful team member and his colleagues really enjoy working with Britt. He is really making a positive difference in the lives of his students. We are excited to have Britt as a part of our SBESInc. team!

Sarah Chatfield, MA, TVI

Sarah Chatfield, MA, TVI

Sarah Chatfield, MA, TVI, was an English teacher before her son was diagnosed with optic nerve hypoplasia. She now loves working with students with visual impairments. Her endorsements include Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (TVI) and Teacher of students with Dual Sensory Impairments (Deafblind). She holds certifications in working with children with CVI, as well as with children with the dual diagnosis of visual impairment and autism. Her B.A. is from Rice University (English Literature) and her M.A. is from Texas Tech (Special Education: Visual Impairment). Her current PhD work (also from Texas Tech) examines how children learn braille skills remotely. We are so happy Sarah is a part of our team!

Amie Hankins, MA, M.Ed. TVI, has been teaching since 1998. She has worked in special education and regular education, in addition to owning her own businesses. Amie found her true calling and passion when she was lucky enough to start working as a Family Advisor for families whose children were visually impaired and deaf-blind. Amie has a M.A. in Special Education. She also earned her M.Ed. as a TVI and has been focusing on assisting visually impaired students in Montana access the tools they need to be successful in life. She is excited to be part of SBES as they expand their services to meet the needs of more and more children! We are so happy Amie is a part of our SBES team!

Heather Willoughby, TVI, BS, comes to us from AZ. She is certified as a TVI in AZ, CA, and FL, and she completed her BS in Visual Disabilities at the Florida State University. Her experience ranges from birth through 12th grade both in the US and in South Korea teaching students with visual impairments or other exceptionalities. She spent 10 years serving students in FL through the Florida Low Vision Initiative which gave her expertise in the area of low vision device use and training. We are excited Heather has joined our team!

Michelle Maduro comes to us from Tulare, CA. She is a TVI Assistant. Currently, she has a B.A in Criminology from Fresno State University. She has three years of experience as a Deputy Probation Officer and two and a half years working as a Special Education Aide. Michelle's end goal is to receive her Masters in Special Education and a certificate in Visual Impairment to become a TVI.

Jasmine came to us from New York City. She is our Independence Specialist. Jasmine has a B.A. in Sociology from CUNY York College. She is fluent in three languages and has several years of experience working with people with visual impairments. Jasmine's ultimate objective is to earn a master's degree in special education, with a concentration in visual impairment. We are happy Jasmine is a part of our SBESInc. team.

Nick Leon, MA, TVI, COMS, comes to us from Indianapolis where he previously worked at the Bosma Center as an Orientation & Mobility Specialist. Nick is a presenter for AER International and has produced a Webinar with AER on using 3-D pens in making tactile maps for Orientation & Mobility. Nick is manager of our independence Specialists Program. He is also a member of our Employee Orientation Team. We are so excited that Nick has joined our team of teachers!

Monique Quintero, Independence Specialist

Monique Quintero is coming to us with an extensive background as a VI paraeducator and braillist. She will be working one-on-one with a blind student, as well as assisting with braille and large print production of materials. Monique is bilingual in Spanish and English. She knows both literary and Nemeth codes. We are so excited that Monique has joined our staff. She is dedicated to making a positive difference in lives of the children she works with.

Yesenia Castro-Arreola has a B.A. in Liberal Studies. She is very strong in math skills. She knows both literary and Nemeth braille codes which helps her be a great support to VI students. Yesenia is bilingual in both Spanish and English. She has brought us so much in her skills as a braillist. We are happy she has joined our team!

Xhorxhia (pronounced Georgia) recently moved to the USA from Europe with a completed Bachelor Degree in Biotechnology from University of Tirana. Xhorxhia is an experienced VI Paraprofessional with a history of working at Detroit Public Schools Community District. Currently working on NFB Certification as a Braille Transcriber. Knowledge on Nemeth Code and Sign Language. She is fluent in 4 languages and is currently learning Spanish and Portuguese at an intermediate level.

Ashley Rosas came to us from San Jose, CA. She is our Independence Specialist. Ashley earned a B.S. in mathematics from Santa Clara University where she also minored in Urban Education and Spanish. She is fluent in both English and Spanish, and has also learned a little bit of sign language along the way. Ashley is passionate about making education accessible to all students and is eager to make a difference in students' lives.

Taylor Smith has joined our SBES, Inc. team as the Manager of the Intervener Program. Taylor has her B.A. degree in Deaf Studies. Taylor is fluent in American Sign Language and has her Interpreter Certification. Taylor completed her Intervener credential program through the Utah State University.  Taylor is an Intervener Leadership Team member on the Board of Directors for the National Intervener Association (NIA). Taylor is a wonderful addition to our SBES, Inc. team.

Kim Ferreira, BA, ASL Interpreter

Kim Ferreira, BA, ASL Interpreter

Kim Ferreira is a native of the Bay Area. She is a child of Deaf adults, CODA, with strong ties to the Deaf community. Kim has been interpreting professionally for 15 years. ASL was her first language, taught to her by her parents and grandparents. She holds a BA degree in Mass Communication from California State University, East Bay. She also has a national certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, RID-NIC. Kim has worked in a variety of fields; video relay interpreting, medical, post-secondary, and K-12 to name a few. She has most recently worked with an O&M in the K-12 setting, for the last three years. Through her Kim has been able to learn a tremendous amount about how to work best with deaf visually impaired students. Kim makes a great addition to our SBES team!

Victoria Olea is fluent in American Sign Language and Spanish. Victoria is working on her B.A. in Deaf Studies. Victoria is an expert in haptic sign and has completed her Intervener credential coursework through the University of Utah. We are happy she is a part of our SBESInc. team.

Olivia (Liv) Maldonado has joined the team as a credentialed intervener from Utah State University. Liv has growing skills in ASL and is fluent in Spanish. Liv has extensive experience working with children and adults with multiple disabilities and behavioral challenges. We are happy Liv is on our SBES team!

Ciara Gutierrez has joined SBES, Inc. as an Intervener. Ciara has experience working with children with special needs and is trilingual in Spanish, English, and American Sign Language. Ciara has her Intervener credential through Utah State University. We are excited to have Ciara working with SBES, Inc.!

Lexine Lopez is an Intervener who has had 6 years of experience within the Deaf community in and around the greater Los Angeles County area. Lexine started her journey into the Deaf community in Spring of 2014 at Mt. San Antonio college and eventually continued to earn her B.A in American Sign Language Linguistics and Deaf culture- ASL to English Interpreting in the Spring of 2020. She is trilingual in English, Spanish, and ASL. In her free time, she enjoys providing volunteer interpreting services to local Black/Latinx/PoC/LGBT+ organizations. She also enjoys reading, playing video games, and traveling.

Maritza DeAnda is fluent in ASL and is currently working with a deaf only student. Maritza has a BA of American Sign Language in American Sign Language from the University of California Sacramento. Maritza has her certification as an Intervener from San Francisco State University. We are excited Maritza is a part of our team!

Kaylyn Abbott , BA, Intervener

Kaylyn Abbott started learning ASL at 12 years old and decided she wanted to get a degree in Deaf Studies. Her ASL education began in San Jose, and then, in 2017, she moved to Northridge, CA to pursue her dreams. She graduated from CSU Northridge in May of 2020 with a Bachelors of Arts in Deaf Studies with a concentration of Deaf Community Service. Kaylyn is excited to start the Intervener credential program through Utah State University this fall. In her free time she loves to ride horses, paint, or read. We are excited to have Kaylyn as part of our team!
